A Focused Approach to Movement
Out of necessity to help her globally delayed child, Michelle Turner created a special movement therapy (Movement Lesson™) that helps special children and adults throughout the world. Movement Lesson utilizes a unique combination of gentle touch and purposeful movement through the principles of counterbalance and rotation to create an individualized and profoundly effective therapy session. Michelle Turner is a movement specialist, who has developed her gentle touch therapy over the past decade. Movement Lesson™ is an alternative to chiropractic manipulations. It is non-invasive and very gentle. Movement Lesson™ is about working with the human body through movement and touch, stimulating the skeletal system to move more efficiently and allowing the opportunity for the brain to process and learn. This method offers lessons to facilitate function and reduce/eliminate pain. The application of a gentle touch applied with rotation allows a system to act and feel as if they are doing the movement. This method of gentle touch creates neuropathways within minutes of application.
Movement Lesson, LLC is located in Peoria, Arizona and is dedicated to helping children and adults achieve increased mobility, pain relief and optimal health since 2009.
During a typical Adult Movement Lesson™, the client does not remove any articles of clothing (other than shoes and glasses) and there are no written assessments. Clients are never to experience discomfort during a session and are asked to inform me of any discomfort so that I can redirect them into a more appropriate positioning for optimal results. The session lasts for one hour that is broken up into 20 minute increments where the client is lying down on their right side, left side, and back. This allows the spine, pelvis and chest cavity to be worked on for functional movement and time for the feet and head to be worked on as well. Please see the following video for an example: http://www.movementlesson.com/spine---movement-lesson.html
During a typical Pediatric Movement Lesson™, the child does not remove any articles of clothing and there are no written assessments. During a session, infants, toddlers and children quickly learn possibilities in movement that they would have never achieved on their own. A Movement Lesson™ initiates, stimulates and enforces developmental movement patterns. Unlike adults, children do not typically have any interest in lying down, so they are encouraged to continue playing and interacting with their parents and toys. It’s during this time that I work and assist with the play to create and enforce successful milestones. The parent is shown the gentleness of the touch and is asked to inform me if the child needs to be feed, take a break for personal needs or is uncomfortable in any manner, so that I can redirect them into a more appropriate positioning for optimal results. Please see the following video for an example: http://www.movementlesson.com/changing-development.html
Due to the limited number of practices specializing in children with severe developmental delays, Movement Lesson, LLC is fully booked several months out with an ever growing waitlist of potential clients.
